More than 214,000 Americans have died from COVID-19 in 2020, but Donald Trump feels it's a good time to dance.
On Monday night, Trump returned to the campaign trail less than two weeks after he and the first lady tested positive for COVID-19. He spoke for more than an hour at a rally in Florida where he bragged about being "immune" to the virus — even though repeat positive cases can occur — and said things like "I feel so powerful."
At the end of the rally, Trump was seen making some bizarre arm and leg movements (which several people online referred to as dancing) while the song "Y.M.C.A." by the Village People played in the background. It was a truly painful sight — and not just because the president's dance moves were dreadful.

The fact that Trump could find it within himself to dance on stage while America is struggling to manage the deadly coronavirus that has already killed nearly 215,000 people in his country is tragic. It's bad enough that the president repeatedly downplays the danger of COVID-19 and tells Americans not to be afraid of it, but now, in addition to disrespecting those who died from the virus and their loved ones, he's celebrating his own survival in a way that comes across as gloating and insensitive.
Once clips of Trump's carefree rally dance made their way around Twitter, it wasn't long before people shared their reactions. Some expressed profound disappointment and disgust in the president's lack of empathy, while others simply mocked Trump for dancing to a song that's very much a gay anthem. (Has anyone checked on Mike Pence?)

Trump's little dance was a deeply tone deaf and gross stunt, but at least he didn't make his way into the audience days after being diagnosed with COVID-19 and kiss his supporters like he said he would.
As reminder, the president had some of the best medical care in the world to help him recover from this deadly virus. That same luxury will not be afforded to the American people, so it's crucial that people take this virus seriously and continue to wear a mask and practice social distancing.
