Joss Whedon, the original creator of the。 Buffy 。movie and beloved TV show, will executive produce the project, while Monica Breen (who co–executive produced Whedon's。 Agents of Shield 。) will write and serve as showrunner for the reboot.。

Whedon has promised that a black actor will take over the iconic Buffy role and that the reboot will focus more of its casting efforts on making the Scooby gang, previously played by geek TV titans like Sarah Michelle Gellar, David Boreanaz, and Seth Green, more racially diverse to better reflect the social issues of today.。
